What experiences do you want?
For most of us, vacation (especially in the Summer) brings thoughts of play time on a lake or in some kind of water environment. We imagine swimming, boating or maybe just playing on a sandy beach, but at the same time, as adults, we remember the crowds and the energy of throngs of people all heading to the same place we might choose to go.
Don’t get me wrong. I love the big lakes and encourage you to include them in your itinerary while visiting Branson but there are ways to have great water fun without the bustle of large crowds and lots of traffic.
Small Lake Joys
You can stay in lodging near a small lake and enjoy the water amenity without going anywhere. Then just make an afternoon trip to one of the big lakes and return to your lodging in a peaceful, serene environment.
Take for example, Fox Hollow Lake in Stonebridge Resort. Fox Hollow is an area of the resort that is known for the many resort amenities right out your front door. The lake is surrounded by a paved walkway and several quaint wooden waking bridges. It’s an easy, beautiful, peaceful (even romantic) stroll around the lake but for the kids and anyone who likes to fish, it’s stupendous.
I met one family walking back with their fishing poles and asked them if the fish were biting. They said “This lake is too much fun! You can’t throw a line in without catching something.” The lake is stocked with several kinds of fish and, since it is a catch-and-release lake, the fish population just keeps growing. I wonder at times if it has become a game with the fish as much as with the resort guests, to get caught and then released back into the water. Another great thing about this lake is that, because it is a private lake, no fishing license is needed.
Not Just Fishing
Even if you are not into fishing, this little lake is fantastic. Staying in a Branson cabin near the lake is like having a box seat at the symphony of nature! It draws wildlife from all around because the environment is so serene and quiet (except for the tree frogs and crickets who frequently sing together long into the night.)
Even in the Summer, coming home from your time on the town is like entering into a different world. Stonebridge Resort is huge (3200 acres) and it is all fenced and the entry gates are guarded 24/7 so none of the tourist craziness gets in. Traffic is light in “The Hollow,” leaving you with a sense of safety and solitude.
Then, in the morning you can enjoy your coffee on the screened in porch and keep an eye on the kids as they play in the nearby playground, featuring a fabulous wooden playset, sand volleyball and basketball courts. In the summer, the nicest swimming pool in the resort, and maybe in all of Branson, is only a few steps away. Swimming next to the lake in a clean pool, surrounded by the forest and big blue sky, just doesn’t get much better than at Fox Hollow Lake…AND Pavilion! Yup, there is a huge pavilion right next to the lake. For large reunions and groups, it’s fantastic and even features an open kitchen with an 8-burner BBQ available to guests who reserve it at the resort front desk.
